Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities

Our Vision

Growing up Pat and I were blessed with mentors who helped open doors for us and become who we are today. As a result, we are in a position to give back to others in the same way. Our passion is to help young people by providing them with opportunities to reach their fullest potential, even when there may be barriers in front of them. At Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities, we are committed to providing resources to children to help them see and dream beyond the restrictive opportunities of their environment or the limitations others have placed upon them.

Since 2012, Pat and I have personally mentored a group of high potential, high performing underserved students from the Dallas area through our signature program, Team 22. In order to nurture their growth into confident young leaders, we host unique educational experiences, send them to leadership camp, pair them with mentors and require that they give back through community service. We are honored to be a part of their leadership development.

We realize that there are other organizations in the community who support the leadership development of young people and share our vision of growing them to their fullest potential.

That is why Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities supports high-quality programs in North Texas through grants, scholarships and partnership efforts like our back to school program. In this way, our efforts are amplified throughout the community and allow us to impact thousands of children each year.

I often say, “To whom much is given, much is required.” That is the motto we live by and what guides our work at Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities. I invite you to join us and to become a member of the Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities family and help us continue or mission to enhance the lives of young people and build tomorrow’s leaders.

Back to School

The Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities Back to School event started with a request from a Dallas ISD student for a few hundred dollars to help outfit fellow classmates with new uniforms. He and his brother noticed that some of their classmates’ uniforms were worn out and had holes in them. When Pat received this letter, she was so touched and felt compelled to do much more for these students in need. What began as a simple uniform giveaway has grown into a back to school event. Students receive new uniforms, dental services, vision testing and glasses (if needed) and haircuts. Each family takes home fresh produce and non-perishable food to start the school year off right. To date 4,000 uniforms have been distributed.

Grants and Scholarships

Grant awards are prioritized for programs that align with the vision of the charity. Local organizations are thoughtfully selected to maximize impact upon North Texas children. Scholarships for students are provided for both high school and college and are awarded on an individual basis. We support access to education, enrichment experiences and those organizations that help children level the playing field by providing opportunities and resources they cannot afford.
